Mahou Sensei Negima (or Negima: Magister Negi Magi) is a manga series spanning 38 volumes and 355 chapters. It is my favorite manga of all time due to its hearty mix of fantasy, action, slice of life, and ecchi comedy.
The general plot of Negima is that a 10 year old prodigal kid from Wales named Negi Springfield graduates from magic school and becomes a teacher in Japan. He is assigned to class 3-A and teaches English. He is a magician working to become a Magister Magi, but he's supposed to keep magic a secret to people not in the know. Negi is also trying to find his father, who was a great Magister Magi and went missing long ago. Throughout the manga, you meet the different students, who all have varying lives and personalities, and the manga gradually goes from being a comedy slice of life with some action on the side, to being more of a Hunter X Hunter-esque shounen with some comedy on the side.
It was written by Ken Akamatsu, whose most famous work before Negima was the slice of life franchise Love Hina. He would then go on to author a sequel to Negima known as UQ Holder, which is also a shounen-style manga. He would also become a politician, as a member of the House of Councillors in Japan. His policies revolve around freedom of expression and consumer rights.
Negima also has recieved multiple anime, video games, and other adaptations. Some of them are alright and others I highly dislike.
